Scott Peterson

Media reporting on the Media

Today is/was September 2nd 2004,  I'm sure no matter who you are, you have heard of Scott Peterson.  It's probably the most media hyped trial so far of this decade.  The trail took about 2 years to get to court and is now into the third month.

What does this have to do with ThaGierk, and better yet why does ThaGierk care.   Like the guy that moves out to Florida who hasn't seen a hurricane can't wait to see and experience one, TheGierk loves nothing more than to be taken up in a media frenzy.  ThaGierk was a huge fan of court TV back in the early 90's when teacher Pam Smart had her boyfriend, 15 year old student Bill Flynn kill her husband.  She received life in prison, and made for TV movies followed suit.  Even a motion picture with Nicole Kidman was based on Pam's story. (To Die For, if you care to know)     Now after about 10 years we have Scott Peterson.  I'm a junkie for this lame, bullshit, media coverage.  But luck was in my corner.  This time the trail is basically down the freeway about 20 miles.  And wouldn't you believe it, I had a service call right across the street from the court house.  It was the same week that the Amber Fyre tapes were coming out and she was supposed to testify. (which she did, but I missed)

So I grabbed a coworker, went to the service call, then walked over to the courthouse for some mockery.  With digital camera in hand we started snapping pictures like a Japanese tourist.  Shaking hands with anyone involved.  I told the cameraman for the CNN network that he was doing an excellent job, same with the audio guy with the headphones.  Then some dude walks up to us and does this whole Tom Green thing.  With a serious face he starts asking us about the media coverage.  Questions like "Why are there so many TV cameras here?" "Is this a big case?" "Who is Scott Peterson?  am I suppose to know him?" "Did he kill someone?"  For sure my coworker and I thought this guy was goofing on us.  I  turned to him and said "I get jokes"  he claimed he truly didn't know what was going on.  Said he moved out here from Boston about 3 years ago, I asked him if he didn't know anything about this case what was he doing here at  the court house.  Claims he was a juror in another case.  He was dressed in nice suit and was well groomed so till this day I can't figure out his story.  Even if he wasn't the kind of guy that watches TV, he definitely  looked like the kind person that would read the paper.  So guy whoever you, nice try.  ThaGierk 1, dude claiming to be a juror with no idea of who Scott Peterson is 0.   I say it again "I GET JOKES"    Just to bad I didn't snap a picture of this fool.

I pulled out all my badges that I have acquired threw the years for working at different companies.  Badges with my picture, badges with big black letters that say "NO ESCORT REQUIRED" all hanging from around my neck including a dog tag that says "The Entertainer" that was given to me by a friend.  (I didn't snap a picture at the time, so with the help of a friend and Photoshop we made you an image so you would get a better visual of what I looked  liked.)  And with all my badges on I tried to gain access to the media area.  You see, everyone there was wearing a badge around their neck that said they were with the media.  So I was trying to fit in. Without a doubt I looked like a chump.  I was attempting to get my 15 minutes of fame and a plug for www.thagierk.com (call me a whore)  Then it ended on a bad note.  Some dude in a suit comes walking up and tells us that a woman and a baby were murdered and this wasn't the time or place to be making jokes.  My retort was simple, "So you're telling me, that there is a time and place to make fun of murdered victims, but just not here in front of the court house?"  I then tried to explain that I was mocking the media circus surrounding the case and not the victims, the families or the accused.  This guy just got more pissed and very politely asked us to leave.  Since we we're just about done, I told him that we would leave.
