The Hunt 2
Confirmed Kill
The rat or so I thought turned out to be a large mouse. It made the mistake of running down my rose bush vine when I stepped outside around 10:15am this morning. I was already upset with the fact that my employer gave me a Friday off because business was slow. After seeing that gray animal run down the vine I took my anger and formulated a plan. The rodent was aware that I was around and was pretty nervous from the encounter. So I went back inside and continued to clean our place for the next 10 to 15 minutes. I then went to the area where I keep the two pellet guns. The spring rifle was already loaded and ready to go. Just had to unlock the trigger lock. I then loaded the pump rifle and gave it a good ten pumps. The pump rifle was the chosen one for this kill. It's a Daisy single shot pellet gun with a red fiber optic site. I've been practicing with this one for the last week. Even though the spring rifle already had a confirm hit from the first hunt it wasn't a confirm kill. The spring gun can shoot about 525 feet per second (fps) The pump rifle with 10 pumps can go about 625. I wanted that extra punch. So I walked outside with both guns, lay one down on the grass and approach the bushes. I sit there for maybe a minute and then the gray bastard stuck his head out from behind a wood plank. I slowly raised the rifle but that dam thing saw my movement and steeped back behind the wood plank. I figured I would take aim and continue to slowly rise hoping that it only steeped back just far enough to get out of eye site. I was right, it was just out of eye site and as I stood up it was still there facing forward. All I could see in my cross hair was the head. Without to much hesitation I took the shot. It dropped down under the wood plank. Dam I missed!! But wait. The legs now appeared under/below the wood plank. It was twitching. I did hit it, but it's going to get away. I dropped the daisy and grabbed the spring rifle, raised it up and took another shot at the torso. I then ran inside grabbed the jam cam and ran back outside for the photo op. As I took the pictures, I noticed it was still twitching. I was shaking pretty hard myself. It was after all my first confirmed kill with a air rifle. I grabbed it with some old barbecue tongs and threw it onto the concrete for a closer inspection. Yep, I got it in the back of the head, brain matter was sticking up and out of the skull. The first shot did kill it. I put it in a plastic sandwich bag, snapped another picture, and then went up stairs and feed it to my snake. Took another picture and made my first phone call.
I'm still shaking from the kill.
excellent!
